How Does BOTOX Work?

BOTOX is derived from a neurotoxin called botulinum toxin or botulinum toxin type a that has been processed into a purified protein that is FDA-approved to treat and prevent facial wrinkles. As we age, our skin loses elasticity and the facial expressions that we make over and over start to “stick” and cause laugh lines, worry lines, and frown lines. BOTOX is injected into the underlying muscles that create facial contractions, which allows them to relax. This relaxing of the facial muscles prevents new wrinkles and allows the skin to smooth out persistent lines that developed over time.

Preparing for BOTOX Injections

BOTOX is a quick and non-surgical treatment, so there is minimal prep needed. Avoiding alcohol and blood-thinning medications like Ibuprofen and Aspirin the day before can reduce your chances of bruising after treatment.1 If you are getting BOTOX for the first time, you can schedule a consultation appointment to discuss your treatment with us. We accept walk-in appointments when possible, but if you pre-book your appointment you can receive 10% off your BOTOX.

Your BOTOX Treatment

The area to be treated will be cleansed and your expert injector will discuss your concerns and create a plan to strategically inject BOTOX in order to meet your aesthetic goals. BOTOX typically takes just 10 to 15 minutes.

What to Expect After BOTOX

You may experience some tenderness or mild redness or bruising near the treated areas, but one of the best things about BOTOX is that you can get back to your regular activities right away. You should avoid rubbing the treatment area and it is best to avoid strenuous activity for a few hours after your injection.

BOTOX Results

While you may notice some immediate improvement, most patients notice optimal results from the effects of BOTOX about one week after treatment.2

Frequently Asked Questions About BOTOX

  • How much does BOTOX cost?

BOTOX at our medical spa is $10.99 per unit for more than 30 units and $13 per unit for 30 units or less. You can receive 10% off when you pre-book your next appointment. Please note that prices are subject to change. Please contact us for current availability and the most up-to-date pricing.
  • How do I know if my BOTOX is genuine?

Before-N-After is able to offer the most competitive pricing on BOTOX because we are an established Allergan partner. We take our commitment to our patients and our status as a top BOTOX provider very seriously and we only offer genuine BOTOX that we receive directly from Allergan, the maker of BOTOX. You can ensure you are getting genuine, sterile BOTOX by only going to certified Allergan providers.
  • Is my BOTOX injection being diluted?

The best way to make sure you are getting the amount of BOTOX you are paying for is to see a provider who charges by the unit (not by the syringe or treatment area) and confirm the number of units you are receiving. We sometimes get this question because people are confused about how BOTOX is manufactured and distributed. Allergan sends BOTOX as a frozen powder with very specific instructions for the provider to add a small and precise amount of sterile liquid. Our BOTOX providers are experts with the experience and integrity to give you authentic and consistent BOTOX injections.
  • Can men get BOTOX?

Absolutely! We have many male clients who get BOTOX to help them look younger and more attractive. BOTOX can smooth away wrinkles while maintaining a masculine look.
  • What is the right age to start getting BOTOX?

This answer is different for everyone. We have clients in their 20s who get BOTOX to keep wrinkles from forming and we also have clients who get their first BOTOX in their 60s. Whether you are interested in preventative BOTOX or you have been bothered by fine lines and wrinkles for a while now, we can help you get a youthful glow!
  • How often should I get BOTOX?

Individual results vary, but most people find that BOTOX results last 3 to 4 months. Quarterly maintenance appointments can ensure you’ll always look your best.
  • What are the side effects of BOTOX?

BOTOX is one of the most popular cosmetic treatments in the world and it is considered to be very safe when performed by an experienced provider. The most common side effect is mild swelling or pain at the injection site. In rare cases, patients may experience flu-like symptoms, dry eyes, or an allergic reaction. 3
  • Can BOTOX be used to treat medical conditions?

Yes, BOTOX is used to treat a range of medical conditions, including chronic migraines, cervical dystonia, strabismus, blepharospasm, and hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating). At Before-N-After we focus on aesthetic rejuvenation and we recommend that you discuss medical BOTOX with your healthcare provider .
  • Why should I choose BOTOX over alternative injectables?

Since BOTOX was introduced, several other injectable wrinkle reducers have hit the market, such as xeomin and dysport. However, BOTOX remains the gold standard in non-surgical anti-aging. As an Allergan partner, we only offer genuine BOTOX at Before-N-After.
  • Will people be able to tell that I got BOTOX?

One of the biggest fears that people have about BOTOX is that it will give you a plastic or frozen look. Rest assured that those types of results are usually the work of an inexperienced or unqualified injector! Our certified providers each have years of experience and specialized training in cosmetic injectables. After your BOTOX treatment at Before-N-After people will notice that you look fresh and well-rested, but no one needs to know that you had BOTOX unless you tell them!
